THE AMAH, who has been in the employ of Mr. Xavier for

six years, was brought in by the Head of the Sanitary Department.

He spoke to her in Chinese and she was sworn in. She was asked

if she knew me, and she said, No, she did not know me; could not

recognise me at all. Mr. Fletcher said, Perhaps she does not

know him without his uniform: She was asked by Mr. Tratman if

she had seen me in the house when her master kept the woman

Aquino, and she said No, she did not recognise me.

0880,

The Committee then decided that she was of no use in the

and she was allowed to go.

I then asked the Chairman why she was brought up against

me, as she was not on the premsa on either of the two visits.

His answer was that she would probably have been in my

favour.
